Skilled Independent Visa

The Skilled-Independent Visa (Subclass 189) is a permanent visa for points-tested skilled workers who want to work and live in Australia. This visa is for skilled workers who are not sponsored by;

  1. an employer or;
  2. a Family member or;
  3. Nominated by a state or territory government
Requirements

You might be eligible to apply for this visa if;

  • You lodged an Expression of Interest (EOI) and be invited to apply.
  • Nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list.
  • Obtained a suitable skills assessment for the occupation.
  • Not older than 45 years of age.
  • Achieve the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test.
  • at least competent English.

The Subclass 189 Visa is has two streams;

  1. Points Tested Stream - lets invited skilled workers to live in Australia as a permanent resident.
  2. New Zealand Citizen Stream - for New Zealand Special Category (Subclass 444) visa holders who demonstrated commitment and contribution to Australia to apply for permanent residence. NZ citizens who are granted the Subclass 189 Visa will be eligible to apply for Australian citizenship after 12 months (in addition to holding a Subclass 444 Visa for a period of 5 years consecutive years).


Skilled Nominated visa

The Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) is a permanent residence visa for points-tested skilled workers who want to work and live in Australia after being nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency. It allows you to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident.

Requirements

You must also have:

  • Nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list.
  • Obtained suitable skills assessment for that occupation.
  • Not yet turned 45 years of age.
  • Achieved the score specified in your letter of Invitation based on the factors in the points test.
  • At least competent English
  • Been nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency.
  • You must score at least 65 points against points test factors to be invited to apply for the visa.


State Regional (Provisional) Visa

The Skilled-Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 489) is for skilled workers and their families to live, work, study in specified regional areas in Australia for four years.

REQUIREMENTS

Invited Pathway

  • You are eligible to apply for this visa if invited. When we send your letter of invitation, you must also have:
  • Been nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency or sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area.
  • Nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupations list.
  • A suitable skills assessment for that occupation.
  • Not yet turned 50 years of age.
  • Achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test.
  • At least competent English.
 Temporary Graduate Visa

Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) lets you live, study and work in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies. Students are only able to access the Temporary Graduate Visa once as a primary applicant.

REQUIREMENTS

You might be eligible for this visa if you:

  • Are younger than 50 years of age.
  • Are in Australia.
  • Hold an eligible visa.
  • Meet the two-year Australian study requirement.
  • Meet the English language requirement.
  • Have recently graduated with an eligible qualification or with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the skilled occupation list (SOL).
